Module 2: Progress

For this project I wanted to focus on learning Blender as best as I could. I used the google form in our collaborative research to use as a base for what animals to start modelling. I used each model I made as practice for the next one. As the weeks continued, I steered towards making assets that my partner Nat could use based on what she needed for the website.

Week 7: Cat Model

This Week I decided to start modelling based on the results provided by our user quiz. One of the animals a user would like to see was a cat. Personally, I thought a cat would be a good start. It's a simple enough shape to get used to the different tools blender has to offer.

At this point I was just messing around with the slicing tool. Then adjusting the points. Softened the face, the started with the body. Tried out “add cube” function. Had some trouble. Altered the points of the cube. Softened the body then added a tail. Wanted to make a more detailed tail for next model.

Week 8: Shark Model

This was the 2nd model created. I felt significantly more confident in the software and I was able to improve my modelling skills slightly.

Had a REAL rough start tp the shark. Had to study some reference images. Utilized “Loop Cut” to make clean adjustments. Used “Inset faces” to create openings for body parts. At this point I was able to create a more detailed tail. Final shark model. Utilized a lot more tools this time. Was very pleased with the results.

Action Research: Creating Images on Models

Nat asked for me to learn how to put images on 3D models. Used a tutorial, and a basic image of Jotaro Kujo. Tutorial taught me how to open the UV editor to edit the look of the image on the model. Was able to create individual images on each face on the model.

What did I learn?

Learning how to add images onto our models was essential for our progress. Knowing how to target specific areas of the model would help us with placing faces on models for the editor. The video I used was 4 years old, luckily I got through it with little to no trouble with finding certain functions.

Prototype Research and Development

Currently, our prototype has two different models. The cat and the shark. These models can change colour and be rotated around. For further development we want to fix some sizing issues on the screen when the models first load. We also want to add more animals, create and overall theme, as well as give them animals clothing and items.
